Total Eclipse™ is amazing. After 35 years of working
side-by-side with machine writers, we are finally able to understand one another as we both use the same powerful software an incredible program with capabilities beyond my wildest dreams.

"Using Total Eclipse™ with SpeechGATE, I can generate near-perfect realtime transcripts with less effort than I ever believed possible. It's a sheer wonder how Total Eclipse™ correctly interprets ambiguities and flawlessly formats my transcripts without the hassle of markers and identifiers. Editing is a snap, I hardly know what to do with the free time I've found since I began using this marvelous program."

EclipseVox™ was an amazing discovery for
me. It can actually make the correct word selections when speech engines don't. That aspect of it saves you a lot of time and trouble.

"Another wonderful thing about this program is it's for everyone, novices and advanced realtime writers alike. Because of its simple user interface, you don't have to learn everything it can do before you can derive benefit."

I absolutely love my program. I can't imagine
being a court reporter without it. I am able to go on more jobs and produce transcripts much faster. I highly recommend Eclipse™ to anyone considering a CAT system. It is easy to use and the support team is very helpful."

I was formerly a steno writer and used the Eclipse software for
many years. Actually, I taught court reporting school (steno) for several years and had the opportunity to work with several of the leading CAT systems (steno-based) on the market. I still believed Eclipse to be the best software out there. When I switched to voice writing, I pleaded with the folks at Advantage Software to enable voice writers to use the Eclipse software. Little did I know, there were plans already in the works to do exactly that.

"I am NOT a salesperson for Eclipse or have any affiliation with them except that I have been using their system for about 12 years now. I truly believe it is the best CAT software out there for steno – and especially voice writers.

"The reason I say this is because Eclipse has true artificial intelligence that enables it to override mistakes that the speech engine makes even with a 'perfect' voice writer. Speech engines have limitations that are impossible to overcome without another layer of technology to overcome them. There are many examples of this. I’ll just give you a few.

"Speech engines don’t always overcome the homonym problem unless you dictate words differently. For example, hear/here; there/they’re/their; Exhibit/exhibit. Eclipse gives you the ability to set up what are called conflicts with these homonyms and select the correct word by overriding what the speech engine has chosen based on the grammatical context.

"Speech engines don’t always overcome number formatting problems, for example, if you want to write out numbers one through ten and have digits for all other numbers – except when it’s an exhibit number, such as Exhibit No. 1. It also can’t distinguish 'No.' versus'number' unless you make entries in the speech engine to account for every scenario of possible numbers that could be encountered as an exhibit.

"Automatic punctuation is great in Eclipse. For example, when I say 'Is that correct,' Eclipse automatically puts a semicolon at the end of the last statement just before that phrase. I can also set up variables with automatic punctuation. An example would be 'Your Honor.' I have 'Your Honor' set up as:  (choice #1) 'Your Honor,' / (choice #2)  ',Your Honor' / (choice #3) , 'Your Honor,' / (choice #4) 'Your Honor' (without commas). Eclipse picks the correct punctuated version of  'Your Honor' without me having to dictate the punctuation.

"There are also a lot of weird things the speech engine does that Eclipse can override. For example, for some reason every time I would dictate 'burglary,' the speech engine would put 'Berkeley.'  Even when I dictated “intent to commit burglary,” it would translate 'Berkeley.' It drove me nuts! Now Eclipse picks the right one without me having to delete 'Berkeley' from the dictionary.

"I could go on and on about Eclipse, but you really need to see a demo to understand some of the basic features that make life so much easier! Bottom line is:  your translation accuracy is only as good as your dictation, but Eclipsehas features to overcome the inabilities that every speech engine has even with perfect dictation."
